All up and down Highway 17 we encountered cars, jeeps and buses filled with Hindu pilgrims. They were a serious threat to our lives as their vehicles passed and weaved on the highway, running us off the road on more than a few occasions.
We had no idea what their destination was until we arrived in Guruvayur and saw a great many of them massed around the temple there. Guruvayur is the home of Lord Sree Guruvayurappan and the idol worshiped here is believed to be over 5000 years old. Removed from their speeding vehicles, the pilgrims were a friendly lot who were easily as entertained by us as we were photographing them.
