Gokarna is just 70 miles south of Palolem, but a world away. Gone are the package tourists from the UK and Russia, and with them the fancy restaurants and high-tariff accommodation. Gokarna is a pilgrimage destination for Hindus and for a smattering of foreigners who are drawn to the many temples and Ayurvedic retreats.
